Education
I
will devote much attention to a child's education, but since beginning of
school age, it takes practically supremacy over all aspects of the child’s
life. For the homemaker it is the most important duty and the most serious
challenge.
Every
child is smart and easily assimilate new knowledge and skills. The role of the
father in this case boils down to one basic issue: the systematic help in
preparing for the next day in school. Make sure that your pupil has a notebooks
and workbooks all completed, whether books all have prepared. It is important
to do this during the same afternoon, because in case of any corrections you
can ask your child to do so before it goes to bed or will be too tired. For the
first three classes of primary school it is worth helping your child to pack a
bag for school and carefully check does your child have all necessary stuff
(ex. paint for an art lesson , dress for gym, etc.). With age a student
acquires skills how to prepare for the next day in school.
The
most important issue in your’s child education is helping him with homework and
preparation to tests. In this first case you should advise your child to find
an appropriate solution of the homework by studying textbooks and supplementary
books. The child has a natural need to search for new information, and this is
the best way to develop his/her knowledge. Of course, a parent should not work
out the homework for his child. Guidance and searching solutions is much more
challenging than simply solving a homework, but in the long term will bring
benefits to your child. It develops a skill of independent thinking and unique
way how to find solutions. This will pay off during all the exams that the
student will have throughout the entire education. In addition, the child wants
to show off his/her knowledge to dad what is a very important motivation.
Another
important element to support your’s child education is systematically checking
his/her preparation to class work and tests. You can do this by giving your
child time to prepare, and then just taking a book or notebook and asking some
questions concerning the given subject. By doing so we will have a picture of
the student's understanding the material
and will also show the issues which still have to be trained. I follow a
principle: "Scio me nihil scire" – “I know that I know nothing” and
always when I help my children I try to find those areas that are most
difficult and prompt solutions. Over the time, children themselves find their
weaknesses and try to fill the gaps in their knowledge and skills.
There
is a proven solution in which each child is doing a homework on daily basis and
prepare for tests during weekends. Of course nobody wants to spend entire
weekend for learning. So when we manage to do this on Saturday we will have
Sunday off.
Assistance
in education is one of the most responsible task of the homemaker. So, one has
to be prepared for it carefully. After all, each of us has already learned a
similar knowledge, it is enough to simply refresh it. Books of your children
will be very helpful. Sometimes I reach also for some additional literature to be prepared for
tough questions the child may have.
It
is also worth to assist a teacher or a director of the school in preparing and
carrying out all kinds of school events, celebrations, school trips or
extracurricular activities . The child is very happy when Dad actively
participates in class and school life .
Learning
is the most important part of education and a token of taking care for the
child's future. However, you should also take care about the development of the
child's talents and interests outside school - sports, music, fine arts these
are just a few areas by which your child can be attracted. It will be extra
motivation for a child to develop. For a parent it is also some additional
burden, but worth the effort.
Playing with the children
It
is worth to spend a lot of time playing with children, especially the youngest.
At the very beginning of their live, they require actually just fun - I
recommend building blocks, puzzles, dolls (for girls) and cottages for them,
cars and racetracks (for boys). Over time, children need more sophisticated
forms of entertainment .
In
primary school it is worth to play football, badminton, ride a bicycle tours.
Children also love to have fun on the playground , so the father should learn
how to play in the sandbox or on the swing –besides, it is a great fun indeed.
It is important to bear in mind the safety of children and follow the schedule
of the day.
It
is important to be involved in everything what children do. Watching cartoons
on TV with them is also a part of the play - I recommend the classics of
children's films, going to the cinema, theater, concert hall. Reading books or
cartoons together also gives a great joy to children, and at the same time is
has some didactic aspect, which will result in the school years.
Next
to the some basic types of play (eg . building blocks ) one should spend more
time on creative fun. You can start from a common drawing , even the simplest
things like a house or a car. The child will be happy to show his father his
drawings and paintings. Older children can be encouraged to mini theater
performances using everything that is in your home or vocal performances.
Painting
using real paint is also great. Any child’s idea, a development of its artistic
imagination is priceless and one should encourage him/her to be creative.
However one should also consider the “consequences” of which we would not like
to see on the walls.
Therefore,
one need to bring the home to the original state after such a creative
activity. But this should be also done as a kind of play which should be done
together with your child.
Children
have a lot of ideas for spending time in a creative way. The role of the father
is to realize most of those projects, of course those one which are reasonable
and within the framework of the technical possibilities. It is also good idea
to use a camera to catch moments. After years is a priceless memento of our
work and the joy of children .
Stages
Children
grow up very fast. So the job of the homemaker takes on a different character.
In due time one need to acquire new skills and knowledge to effectively help
children and take care for the functioning of the house.
So
the duties of the homemaker are changing. Some of them disappear, some new
appear. Older children do not need such attention to many aspects of daily
activities, but they need more involvement in the school affairs and
extracurricular activities .
Responsibilities
and the rhythm of everyday life is changing at each stage of work. However, it
does not mean that there is less work. The dynamism of these responsibilities
makes this work challenging and one can’t fall into a routine.
An
additional advantage is the lack of monotony and boredom , because next to the
permanent elements of the work, there are new tasks constantly emerging. The
homemaker can develop himself together with the children, and the skills,
knowledge and experience he gains during the life become priceless.
This
favors also in the future return to your professional life, when children do
not need our care any longer and begin to live their own lives .
Infant
stage :
The
newborn and a child under two need the basic care. You need to help your child
and look after all matters of hygiene, nutrition, fun and safe exploring the
world (high chairs, stairs, edges of furniture etc.). The little one also needs
our heat, conversations and almost constant presence.
For
an adults many aspects of life are obvious, but the toddler needs to discover
them. It is the most difficult stage, because sometimes we do not know to pass
the obvious things to your baby, especially when he/she does not fully
understand the meaning of words - one
need to learn how to do this.
However,
it is good to talk to your baby from the very first weeks of his/her life. Even
when he/she does not have a clue of your monolog, he/she caches up your
emotions and somehow understands your intention – especially when you use fairly
simple language. It is worth to spend a lot of time to play with your baby: on
the carpet, walking with a stroller . It is also important to engage in the
feeding, swaddling your baby, learning the basic activities and discover the
world around us - shopping , parks, playgrounds, cinemas, museums , interesting
places , beautiful natural places and other .
This
stage is probably the most challenging physically (usually both parents are
absorbed around the clock, lack of sleep, illness, colic or other unforeseen
events), but the joy and satisfaction of your developing child is enormous.
Preschool
stage
The
child can now take care on his/her basic needs on his own. Greater emphasis
should be placed on social development and science - baby wants and learns how
to draw, discovers the thoughts and ideas of others, begins to see the
abstracts . So the role of homemaker evolves. It is good to engage in
kindergarten life (not all kids want to go to kindergarten and if the child
strongly resist himself against this , then you should really think about a
different solution). I suggest one spend more time on the fun, sports,
entertainment , trips , reading books, watching cartoons on television together
.
The
new duties are driving (walking) your child to kindergarten , participation in
events and celebrations organized I the kindergarten - this is the most
important thing for the child if the father would come to kindergarten
presentation or take part in a family picnic .
On
the other hand , there is a moment for yourself when, after the morning duties
you can take some break. It is a moment for undisturbed shopping , planning
trips or simply relax. After picking up child from kindergarten you should take
the daily routine back, up to the time when children are asleep. Before bedtime
it is worth to read together a
fairy-tale, preferably with colorful illustrations . And after a very active
day you can sit in front of the TV and fall asleep.
Going
to the school
The
school is a new challenge for children. As for the homemaker. School changes
the nature of his work - there are new responsibilities: preparing your child
for school (second breakfast, additional materials for classes ) assisting in
homework , developing extracurricular interests, solving problems. At this
stage you should also develop yourself. To help your child, you have yourself
to refresh their school program. Curricula are changing and it is good to know
in advance what knowledge your child is supposed to learn. It is useful to scan
textbooks and obligatory readings. The proactive attitude of the parent and
learning together have a positive impact your child who likes to go back to the
books and to prepare for school. The fine arts: painting or music require a lot
of effort.
One
should daily check what your child has learnt in the school and how is prepared
for next day classes. When you child is in a school , you can improve your
education and simply take a break. So the biggest work is when your child
returns home, with the above-mentioned routine.
So
when your child grows up there are many new issues– so be prepared for the
unexpected.
